Private Instrument Lessons

Students are expected to bring their instrument with them (except for piano students) along with any music they’ve been working on. Please arrive 5 minutes before the scheduled appointment time. Parents/guardians, please provide contact information where you can be reached during the lesson.

In Home Lessons

Piano students are recommended to have an acoustic upright or grand piano in-home. The piano should be well-maintained and tuned at least twice per year. I do not recommend spinet pianos. If budget is a concern, I’m happy to recommend budget-friendly alternatives.

Frequently Asked Questions

Scheduling

Lessons are generally weekly during the school year. I’m happy to be flexible and work around your schedule, but I do ask that students commit to the same day and time every week. Please reach out to reschedule if necessary. Please provide at least 24 hours notice before a cancellation.
In the summer months, lessons are available either weekly or bi-weekly, to allow more scheduling flexibility.

Practice

Students are expected to practice their instruments at least 5 times per week, for 30-60 minutes each time. Quality of practice time is just as important as quantity, and we will discuss how you can get the most out of your practice time. It’s important to maintain engagement while also making progress. The only way to move a mountain is one stone at a time.

Semi-Annual Recital

The Spring and Winter recitals are a celebration of all the hard work students have done on their instruments and an opportunity to perform in front of family, friends, and peers. Details about each recital will be communicated out at least one month prior to the date of the performance.
Students are welcome to join the studio at any time there is an opening, but a student must have been with the studio a minimum of two months in order to participate in the recital.

Instrument purchase/repair

If you need to purchase or repair an instrument, I am happy to provide recommendations on brands, models, and shops. I provide some basic instrument repair complimentary for students, and can provide recommendations for shops that perform more advanced repairs or for instrument rentals.
For pianos, I can provide recommendations for piano technicians/tuners.

Cost of Materials

All students are responsible for the purchase of assigned music books, sheet music or other material. For your convenience, I can purchase the material for you and the cost will be added to your next bill.

Billing

Your first lesson is always free! If you don’t feel that it’s the right fit, there is never any obligation.
Payment for lessons is due at the time of the lesson.
